Watch Courtney Barnett Cover A Grateful Dead Classic On ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’

Continuing her domination of the US talk-show airwaves, Australia’s own Courtney Barnett has returned to Jimmy Fallon‘s The Tonight Show to perform a cover of Grateful Dead‘s New Speedway Boogie, which she recently contributed to a huge Grateful Dead tribute compilation.

Barnett’s latest Fallon performance (below) sees her and her bandmates rock out to the 1970 Deadhead favourite, with the song’s trudging rhythms perfectly suiting the Melburnian’s laid-back vocals. Basically, she nailed it…

Barnett’s studio version of New Speedway Boogie appears on the Day Of The Dead compilation album, which was released earlier this month. The compilation features other Grateful Dead covers by the likes of The National, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Mumford & Sons.

Last week, Barnett was the musical guest on the season finale of Saturday Night Live, where she performed two original songs and also taught the SNL cast a little bit of Aussie slang.

After her current jaunt through the US and Canada, Barnett is returning to Australia for Barunga Festival in June before heading to Europe. She will return down under in July for Splendour In The Grass.
