They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right? We think that had to be the case last night, when Foo Fighters‘ Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins inducted classic Canadian rockers Rush into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame…by dressing up as them.
They performed the Rush classic Overture, dressed up in the band’s signature 70’s kimonos, delighting the crowd of Rush fans packed into Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre. Grohl was dashing in a blonde wig as Alex Lifeson, Hawkins of course played the part of Neil Peart, and Nick Raskulinecz (producer on two Foos albums) stepped in on bass as Geddy Lee. Grohl then gave a 7-minute induction speech, saying, “When the fuck did Rush become cool? Their legacy is that of a band that stayed true to themselves no matter how uncool they seemed to anyone. Rush have always been cool! Consider this mystery solved and it’s our honor to finally induct Rush into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”
Last night’s inclusions into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame also included Public Enemy, Quincy Jones, Donna Summer and Heart.
