ARIA Award-winning Brisbane rockers DZ Deathrays have kicked off our Friday morning with a
rocking cover of Puretone’s 1998 hit Addicted To Bass for triple j’s Like A Version.
The Brisbane outfit injected the smooth dance track with a jolt of their signature rock flair and, somewhat ironically, they did it all without an actual bass. Readers might remember the original track by Melbourne’s Josh Abrahams — under his Puretone moniker — was a hit on Australia airwaves in the ’90s, landing at number 16 on the Hottest 100 in 1998.
DZ Deathrays are of course no stranger to unexpected covers. They’ve already unleashed a surprise cover of Finnish DJ Darude’s trance anthem Sandstorm at Falls this past month as well as last year’s very merry rendition of Christmas classic, Lonely This Christmas.
While in the studio the boys also performed a ripping version of their Black Rat track Gina Works At Harts. Watch both performances below.
DZ Deathrays will also be appearing at triple j’s 40th birthday celebration concert, Beat The Drum, today. The band kick off their national Get Rich Or Drunk Tryin’ Tour on Thursday 26th February at Melbourne’s Northcote Social Club, before moving on to shows in Adelaide, Perth, Bunbury, Fremantle, Sydney and hometown gigs in Brisbane.
