Watch: Foo Fighters Perform At US Democratic Convention

Foo Fighters got an interesting set of reactions from political commentators and talk show hosts following their stripped-back performance at the Democratic National Convention recently.

The band played acoustic versions of their hits My Hero and Walk for the hordes of Barack Obama and US Democratic Party supporters – with the distortion pedals and big amps nowhere to be seen.

Following their introduction by someone who sounded like she was speaking from outer space, Dave Grohl said: “It’s an honour to be here and I think this song makes perfect sense here tonight,” before launching into My Hero.

Banana 101.5 reported that the song “showcased a little more key-based involvement than usual, with Rami Jaffee getting a chance to shine mid-song. In addition, the lighter style put more emphasis on Taylor Hawkins’ drumming skills, as he had a chance to add his own flourishes to the track.”

Following that, Grohl strummed his way solo through the lead verse of Walk before the rest of the band picked up the tempo with their parts.

According to Grunge Report, former Utah governor and one-time Presidential Candidate Jon Huntsman told FOX News that he thought the Foos haven’t lost their touch:

“I think it was proved at the Democratic Convention that the Foo Fighters still put on a pretty good performance live.”

On-air personality Neil Cavuto didn’t buy that – stating: “They did have better music. I got to tell you. I’m just saying.”

CNN host Piers Morgan had a different take – saying he was more into sassy divas than the Foos. While speaking with guest Ashley Judd, he said: “I don’t really like the Foo Fighters. I’m more of a Mary J. Blige man myself.”

After cutting away minutes later to CNN’s Situation Room, host Wolf Blitzer revisited Morgan’s comments and said he was a fan of the band.
