After a 2023 that saw them scoop up a shelf full of ARIAs, J Awards and more, G Flip has kicked off the New Year by returning to the triple j Like A Version studio to deliver a showstopping cover of Taylor Swift‘s 2019 hit ‘Cruel Summer’.
The multitalented drummer and vocalist showed off their chops on both instruments in a rocked-up version of the ubiquitous heartbreak anthem off Tay Tay’s Lover LP. Check it out below.

Backed by a full band and string section, the Flipster gave Swift’s modern classic an anthemic, punk-tinged makeover, even jumping behind the kit for a spell on the tubs.
“I think it’s one of the best pop songs ever written,” G Flip told triple j.
“I feel like as a queer person, we’ve all gone through a summer where you’ve fallen in love with someone. As a story I love it and there’s a lot of queer Taylor Swift fans who I think they would like me changing the lyrics a little bit.”
G also confessed that ‘Cruel Summer’ was an easy choice for their second run at Like A Version, since it’s always the go-to pump-up song they play before hitting the stage on tour.
The artist also delivered a live rendition of their original ballad ‘The Worst Person Alive’ for good measure.
You can give that one a watch below.
