Watch Green Day Perform ‘Good Riddance’ With 19th Century Lyrics Because Stephen Colbert Couldn’t Afford The Originals

Through their blatant Scrooge McDuckery, Green Day have inadvertently helped Stephen Colbert launch a brand new segment on his Late Show.

It all started when the host invited the punk rock legends onto his nightly LOLfest as guests, and requested that they perform his favourite tune, ‘Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)’.

Sadly, Colbert could not afford to pay the trio enough for the full song, so had to make do with the OG music, coupled with a few choice lyrical upgrades.

Because the copyright costs were much lower, Colbert opted to have Green Day perform their iconic high school graduation anthem with the lyrics to your grandad’s favourite song from the 1800’s, ‘Camptown Races’. And thus, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert‘s new segment ‘Lyrics We Could Afford To Songs We Love’ was born.

Watch the video below and catch Green Day live when they kick-off their Australian tour later this month.
