In preparation for their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this weekend, Green Day played an intimate three-hour show for fans in Cleveland which included a surprise appearance from Rancid singer Tim Armstrong.
Reports Rolling Stone, the punk trio worked their way through a career-spanning 35-song setlist, and the Rancid frontman joined them for covers of Knowledge, a track from his former band Operation Ivy, as well as the Rancid song Radio, which Tim Armstrong and Billy Joe Armstrong wrote together.
As a special treat for long-time fans, the show kicked off with Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt reuniting with their original drummer John Kiffmeyer, who played with the band from 1989-1990, and together they performed a bunch of tracks under their original moniker, Sweet Children.
The Cleveland show was Green Day’s fist in over a year, following their last appearance at South By Southwest in 2014 under the moniker Foxboro Hot Tubs. They had previously announced they would take a break from touring after playing Soundwave and two US shows in early 2014.
This weekend, Green Day will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside Lou Reed, Joan Jett, Bill Withers, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble and The Paul Butterfield Blues Band.
