Rock legends Guns N’ Roses have made their own tribute to the late Angels frontman Doc Neeson, by performing a cover of the Angels’ classic song Marseilles, at their show last night in Las Vegas.
“This one’s for Doc. From The Angels to the angels,” Axl Rose says towards the end of the rendition. A video of the tribute, which was taped from a monitor of the concert’s closed-circuit feed, can be seen below. The song appeared on The Angels’ 1978 record Face to Face.
Guns N’ Roses have long cited The Angels as a musical influence as have groundbreaking Seattle grunge bands Nirvana and Soundgarden. Noise 11 reports, Guns N’ Roses first Australian tour was a co-headliner with The Angels. Frontman and Aussie rock legend Doc Neeson died on Wednesday after battling an aggressive brain tumour. He was 67.
Axl Rose has also confirmed the existence of two finished Guns N’ Roses albums that would finally follow up their 2008 LP Chinese Democracy. One of those albums is a remix of the 2008 LP and according to Axl, they could surface in the near future.
“We recorded a lot of things before Chinese was out,” Rose said in an interview with Revolver. Basically, we have what I call the second half of Chinese. That’s already recorded. And then we have a remix album made of the songs from Chinese. That’s been done for a while, too.”
Rose said while there is no official timeline for the release of the records as yet, he intends to make plans once Guns N’ Roses conclude their residency at Las Vegas’ Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. Their final show is scheduled for June 7th. Guns N’ Roses will also release a 3-D concert film of their Vegas residency on June 18th and 19th.
