Watch Highasakite Cover Bon Iver For ‘Like A Version’

Norwegian indie rock five-piece, Highasakite are in the country in the midst of their debut Australian tour and this morning they stopped by triple j to deliver a beautiful cover of Bon Iver‘s uplifting Heavenly Father, his contribution to Zach Braff‘s new film, Wish I Was Here.

Just before launching into the song, the band gave listeners a hint of what they were about to unveil with the clue, “We wish you a good winter,” alluding of course to the sort of literal English translation of the French name, Bon Iver.

Armed with portable atmospheric lightening and a horn instrument resembling a “squashed trombone”, revealed to be a flugabone, lead singer Ingrid Helene Håvik and her bandmates delivered a soaring rendition of the Bon Iver track.

Highasakite’s relationship with the folk group is a long-held one, as the band were actually championed early on by Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, who took them on tour after seeing them at Norway’s Øya Festival in 2012.

While in the studio Highasakite also treated listeners to a gorgeous rendition of their track Since Last Wednesday, which features on their folk-inspired and electronically layered, lush album Silent Treatment. Check out both performances below.

Highasakite finish up their Australian tour with a sold-out show in Melbourne this Saturday, 20th September. See details here. They’re also rumoured to be returning in January for Laneway Festival. Stay tuned for details there.
