Rapper Kanye West has opened his second Wireless Festival performance in London on Saturday night by covering three songs written by his “homie” Drake, who cancelled his own headlining slot due to illness.
According to The Guardian, Kanye prefaced his performance by saying, “My homeboy Drake can’t be here but we still gotta rep for him tonight.” Yeezy went on to perform sections of Drake’s songs Trophies, We Made It and All Me.
Drake later thanked Kanye on Instagram, posting a picture (below) of West performing, along with a lengthy caption. “Man I appreciate Kanye playing Trophies at Wireless so much. I want to be at all the shows more than anything in the world right now. I just keep watching the video over and over,” Drake said.
“Slow motion for me right now but I promise all the fans an incredible experience as soon as I am back. I am so sorry once again I love you all dearly. Thank you Ye for giving me that joy tonight.”
During his earlier performance at Wireless Festival on Friday night, Kanye was booed by the 40,000-strong festival crowd after diving into a scathing and typically auto-tuned rant.
After filling in for Drake on Saturday, Kanye offered up another rant, which was greeted with both boos and cheers from the crowd. “Sometimes it’s hard because I’m so shy but I’m a mixture of shy, lazy and a bit arrogant,” West told the audience.
“No one really speaks from their heart to the internet, to the world; it’s kind of brave for a shy person to inspire people to be more expressive.”
37-year-old West, who recently married reality TV star Kim Kardashian, discussed his fears for their one-year-old daughter, saying, “Sometimes you need a day off. I want to bring my family to the movie without 30 motherfuckers following me.”
“I want my daughter to have that opportunity to decide whether she wants to be famous or not. I think to myself, what the fuck am I going to do, how can I change it and how can I give my daughter her childhood?”
