Watch Kendrick Lamar Spit A Fiery Verse With Prince

Kendrick Lamar joined Prince onstage at his Paisley Park home and studio during the Purple One’s recent celebration of his two latest albums, Art Official Age and PlectrumElectrum. The hip hop vanguard contributed a fiery verse to What’s My Name, a rare cut from Prince’s 1998 collection Crystal Ball.

As Rolling Stone reports, the concert was livestreamed via Yahoo and featured segments exploring the history of Paisley Park and interviews with Prince’s recent collaborators. The concert is part of a “series of very special events” to celebrate the new albums, though no other events have been scheduled.

The rocker did, however, recently participate in a Facebook Q&A to promote the new records. After encouraging fans to send in their questions, the post amassed over 4,000 replies and 12,000 likes. Prince acknowledged his fans’ efforts by responding to a single question, posed by a fan who was curious about sound frequencies. Prince’s reply thoughtfully came in the form of a hyperlink to a web article.

Prince unveiled his two new albums earlier this week. Art Official Age, a solo album that the multi-instrumentalist rock legend himself has dubbed “classic Prince”, was recorded with singer-songwriter Joshua Welton, while PlectrumElectrum was recorded in collaboration with Prince’s band, 3rdEyeGirl. Prince has labelled the latter “an electrifying funk-rock statement” and a “classic band album”.
