New Zealand pop phenom Lorde has reestablished herself as a real-good-sport by mimicking her own South Park persona on camera during an interview.
South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone gave Lorde the South Park treatment during a recent episode titled Gluten Free Ebola, in which “Lorde” sings at a child’s party (video below). Her voice was much lower than normal, though, and she was sporting a bushy moustache, leading the show to later reveal that “Lorde” was none other than Randy Marsh in badly-executed drag.
In a recent interview with TV3 New Zealand‘s David Farrier, Lorde was asked about the skit, and revealed that she actually began mimicking the segment right away.
“That was really funny! I got off really easy!” Lorde said. “I was thinking, ‘Yeah he has a moustache… I mean I have a moustache, but is it that prominent?’ But it was someone’s dad pretending to be me. We actually, in my hotel room, went ‘Ya ya ya ya ya I’m Lorde! Ya ya ya!’ for like an hour.” Watch the exact moment Lorde sings those words in the clip below.
Lorde initially responded to her South Park parody via Twitter, telling fans, “I have officially been the subject of 2 South Park episodes and that is weird and cool,” before adding that Sia may have had something to do with it. “I don’t actually watch South Park but from what I can tell Sia was involved and someone’s mum said something really nice about me.. score!”
