New Zealand’s teen phenom Lorde (Ella Yelich-O’Connor) has performed her hit song Royals live on American breakfast television, after recently bumping Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball off the top of the charts and making her American TV debut on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.
After breaking Alanis Morissette’s US chart record for the longest run at the top of Billboard’s Alternative chart for a female, Lorde’s popularity continues to rise. Her debut album Pure Heroine has been released, and has received generally positive reviews. It’s now clear, if it wasn’t already, that Lorde has broken the notoriously difficult American market, toppling US pop stars and chart records along the way.
Pure Heroine is currently being promoted by a slew of national tour dates. Music Feeds writer Greg Moskovitch praised the album’s pop poetics in his glowing review. Lorde is also set to play Laneway Festival in early 2014. So if you’re heading along, she’s definitely one to watch.
Check out the early morning performance of Royals below, as well as other single Tennis Court if you’re after a bit of variety.
