Macklemore and Ryan Lewis recently took out the number 1 spot on triple j’s Hottest 100 for their infectious novelty jam Thrift Shop. Now that the hip hop duo are major stars it’s time to make the major bucks, and that means losing your independent roots and signing with a major label.
In a new skit by Funny Or Die, Macklemore and Lewis pay a visit to EKG Records to talk records deals and ultimately score a free lunch. The duo are met by a pair of label executives who have plenty of sweet ideas to take Macklemore and Lewis to superstardom.
First piece of business – changing Ryan Lewis’s name, because having too many first names is way too suspicious. Then it’s onto talking deals; as the American pair buy their clothes at thrift shops, a pair of shoes and can of beans seem like a pretty sweet offer.
Hilarity ensues as negotiations continue until at last the label strike “the worst deal ever seen” with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. Check it out!
