Macklemore has taken to the stage to perform at the NRL Grand Final after days of controversy surrounding his performance.
The US rapper performed his equality anthem ‘Same Love’ with Mary Lambert promoting same-sex marriage in the country in the midst of the plebscite.
After the performance Macklemore told the crowd, “Equality for all,” while the NRL displayed a sign on the screens at ANZ Stadium that read, “We stand for equality.”
Macklemore hit number one on iTunes with the song off his record The Heist after a week of controversy. He performed it despite a petition by former NRL player Tony Wall attempting to block the performance.
Former Prime Minister Tony Abbott also backed that saying, “Footy fans shouldn’t be subjected to a politicised grand final.”
Macklemore was unphased by the criticism from the start saying, “I’m going to love.”
He also performed one of his most recent singles ‘Glorious’ off his new album GEMINI, ‘Downtown’, ‘Thrift Shop’ and ‘Can’t Hold Us’.
