Watch Madonna Cover John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ On Streets Of Paris In Honour Of Terror Attack Victims

Madonna was in Paris this week playing to a packed-out arena on her Rebel Heart tour, but while there she took the chance to pay her respects to the victims of the tragic Paris terror attacks.

Following her concert at the Bercy Arena she took to Place de la Republique, which has become a memorial to those that lost their lives during the 13th November attacks, and covered John Lennon‘s Imagine as well as her own songs Like A Prayer and Ghosttown.

“Everybody knows why we’re here,” Madonna said (via Stereogum) to a crowd of on-lookers who joined her in song.

“We just want to sing a few songs about peace, just to spread love and joy, and to pay our honour and respect to the people who died almost four weeks ago. And to spread light… we all need it.”

Imagine has become an anthem of peace in the wake of the attacks after a pianist performed a moving rendition of the track on the streets of Paris the day after the tragedy.

Throughout her performances (below), Madonna clutches onto her 10-year-old son David.

The legendary singer is one of many artists making a point of bringing music back to Paris after 89 people were killed at the Bataclan during an Eagles of Death Metal concert as part of the November attacks. Just this week, Eagles of Death Metal and U2 returned to Paris to play.
