Watch Mark Ronson, Kevin Parker & More Cover QOTSA’s ‘I Sat By The Ocean’ For ‘Like A Version’

In a blockbuster instalment of triple j’s Like A Version, super-producer Mark Ronson stopped by to swing the hammer and test the strength of his covers game.

Hot off the Splendour trail, Ronson and his allstar musical entourage, including Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker, Miike Snow’s Andrew Wyatt and Kirin J Callinan, joined forces to tackle a Queens Of The Stone Age classic, I Sat By The Ocean, perhaps inspired by his recent visit to Byron Bay (see the Instagram post below).

The down-tempo rendition of the …Like Clockwork track sees Wyatt stretch his dizzying falsetto chops with a little help from Parker and Callinan who embellish with some tasty guitar licks, using that signature psych tone.

All up, it’s not exactly what we were expecting, but effortlessly cool all the same. Newly uploaded video footage of the performance also adds a new dimension to the experience, showing Ronson and co. living out the ultimate jam session. If social media is anything to go by, there’s been a couple of these on Mark’s Australian tour.

While in the studio, Ronson and Parker also performed their original Uptown Special collaboration Daffodils, aided by Callinan who unleashed some shredding guitar licks onto the spacey track.

Ronson and friends just wrapped up their final Splendour In The Grass sideshow in Melbourne on Wednesday night. Check out some happy snaps from the Sydney instalment, as well as the video of their Like A Version performance, below.
