On Friday, 10th October, ABC‘s two-hour variety show, Friday Night Crack Up, featured a sterling and ever-so-soulful cover of Gnarls Barkley‘s hit song Crazy, sung live and a cappella by Australian music heavyweights Missy Higgins, Eddie Perfect and Tripod.
The entrancing cover of Crazy (below), which featured plenty of a cappella “Ooh”-ing and “Aah”-ing, coincided with World Mental Health Week and the ABC‘s own “Mental As” campaign.
Despite a song titled Crazy being an odd choice to highlight mental health issues, the rag tag group put in an excellent performance. Higgins’ always impressive vocals often took centre stage, with the guys around her providing some perfect vocalised jazz rhythms.
Tripod (featuring Eddie Perfect) will perform at Queenscliff Music Festival in November. Missy Higgins, who is expecting her first child in January, will wrap up her mammoth OZ album tour in Melbourne on Wednesday, 29th October.
