Watch Polaris Kick ‘Black Fingernails, Red Wine’ Up A Notch For Like A Version

Sydney metalcore boys, Polaris have delivered a hard AF Like A Version this morning. Taking on Eskimo Joe’s 2006 hit single ‘Black Fingernails, Red Wine’, the band turned it up a notch, putting a heavy spin on the rock classic.

The cover finds this perfect balance between the vocals. Jamie Hails, who’s sporting black fingernails for a special touch, brings Polaris’ metal sensibilities to the cover while Jake Steinhauser’s clean vocals bring a melodic balance.

The instrumentals become more intense too with these stunningly heavy breakdowns breaking up verses.

Polaris also delivered their original ‘Vagabond’, taken from their February release The Death Of Me.

The band was missing guitarist Ryan Siew for the event but Plini was able to step in.

“Huge thanks to our good friend Plini who came to the rescue when Ryan sadly came down with the flu a couple of days before this session and was unable to perform with us,” said Polaris.

In their Behind the Like A Version, Dan and Jake reminisced about that 2006 sweet spot where ‘Black Fingernails, Red Wine’ and ‘Sarah’ were in heavy radio rotation.

“It does come with its own challenges,” says drummer Dan Furnari on shaking up the track.

“Just taking what someone has sung softly and deciding to scream it in some parts and stuff… I know some people won’t like it. I know that kind of stuff is not for everybody.”

“But that’s what we do.”
