Queens of the Stone Age have been very useful lately in bringing us lots of news updates on the making of their new album – and this one is arguably the best one yet.
Josh Homme and co. have created a very funny and unique mockumentary – titled Secrets of the Sound. The production takes you on a look inside the band’s recording studio, where they are currently making their first studio album in five years.
Comedic duo Matt Berry and Steve Agee are the hosts/narrators of the nine-minute-long video, and they bring the chuckles from the minute they pop on the screen. Steve in particular is in fine form, muttering only a couple of words once the camera angle swings to focus on him – and correcting or complimenting Matt on the words coming out of his mouth.
Other highlights include a 10-15 second awkward pause after a comment about the band’s guitar collection – and Berry directly telling Homme “some of the stuff here looks shit” during a one-on-one interview in the recording room. He also introduces Homme as John instead of Josh. And that’s all in the first 90 seconds.
Check out the mockumentary at the bottom of the page. As previously reported, QOTSA are currently recording their new album – which is rumoured for a March/April release; however, this has been denied by the band’s management. Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Renzor, former bassist Nick Oliveri, Scissor Sisters’ Jake Sheers and Dave Grohl are all helping out on the record, with the latter describing the album as sounding “completely ridiculous” so far.
