Canberra lads SAFIA have stepped into the triple j studios this morning and delivered a hypnotic and slow-moving cover of alt-J‘s recent single, Left Hand Free.
The trio also managed to squeeze in a Led Zeppelin-infused performance of their original track, Counting Sheep, as part of this week’s Like A Version.
SAFIA’s cover of Left Hand Free (below) combined some soulful vocals and keys from frontman Ben Woolner with some graceful guitar, synth and percussion work from his bandmates Michael Bell and Harry Sayers. The cover is noticeably more downtempo than the original, but those core melodies are still very much at the forefront.
What’s more, SAFIA’s performance of their original track, Counting Sheep, saw the group drop a snippet of Led Zeppelin’s Stairway To Heaven into the mix. Watch the boys do their thing, below.
