The surviving members of Stone Temple Pilots have paid tribute to Scott Weiland with a moving studio video where they listen to and discuss Weiland’s powerful vocal performance on the band’s classic song Atlanta.
Digging up the the multi- track recordings of the song (recorded over 16 years ago) for the video, Guitarist Dean DeLeo, bassist Robert DeLeo and drummer Eric Kretz are able to solo out Scott’s voice in sections, allowing us to full appreciate his talent.
“This is one song in particular that hits me the same way that it did the day that we recorded it,” Kretz says in the video, adding, “I love how he crafts such great lyrics, the melody, and the true and honest tone in his voice. It’s truly something special.”
The video follows the band’s open letter to Scott where they mourned his passing on Thursday 3rd December this year. “You were gifted beyond words,” they wrote in the letter, a gift they reverently display in this video.
“Dean and Eric and I wanted to honour Scott, and we thought the best way to do that would be musically,” Robert DeLeo says in the video. “We chose this song because we feel it represents one of the times in our career that Scott was truly at his best.”
