Last Friday, during the second of The Kid LAROI’s huge homecoming Sydney shows at Qudos Bank Arena, the fast-rising hip-hop star brought out Mount Druitt drill crew ONEFOUR to the stage.
LAROI, along with ONEFOUR’s J Emz, Spenny and YP, performed their 2020 collaboration ‘My City’, lifted from ONEFOUR’s debut EP Against All Odds. ONEFOUR then performed two of their own tracks – 2019’s ‘Shanks and Shivs’ and 2020’s ‘Spot the Difference’.
“These guys have been banned from performing in Australia. And guess what? I don’t fuck with that,” LAROI said when introducing the collective. “So tonight, I’m going to fucking give them what the deserve, and they’re going to come out here and do a few songs for us tonight. Let’s fucking go, Sydney. Make some noise for your very own ONEFOUR.”
It’s true that ONEFOUR have had difficulty staging their own concerts in Sydney and elsewhere in recent years. In 2019, they were forced to cancel their first national tour, citing pressure placed on venues from authorities. They’ve performed infrequently since – last week they made at an appearance at a private party for Ksubi that marked their first Sydney show in around three years.
Watch LAROI and ONEFOUR perform together below. The Australian leg of The Kid LAROI’s End of the World tour continues tonight in Perth before continuing along to Adelaide, Melbourne, Brisbane and finally Hobart, the latter as part of this year’s Dark Mofo program.
