Over the weekend, The Killers played Riptide Music Festival in Fort Lauderdale, South Florida, and brought a special guest up onstage with them.
17-year-old Jayson Verebay caught frontman Brandon Flowers’ attention after holding up a sign asking to play with the band, with the singer then pulling the teenager onstage.
“Alright, this is Jayson from Fort Lauderdale,” Flowers tells the crowd. “You ready for this?”
Verebay took up drummer Ronnie Vannucci’s spot behind the kit to play Sam’s Town cut ‘For Reasons Unknown’; and it looks like he blew the 35,000 strong crowd away with his performance.
The teenager told Rolling Stone “As I was coming up there, my heart was pounding and I was actually shaking. It was the most mind-boggling experience ever.”
Verebay told the magazine he counts Vannucci as a hero, and had been practicing live versions of the songs for weeks before the show – his first time seeing the band live.
“I didn’t think it would actually happen for me. I thought I would forget everything, but I got it down.”
“This is something I’ve been dreaming about for a long time,” he added. “It was the most incredible experience and I’m still speechless.”
