Part one of the three-part Kanye West documentary, jeen-yuhs, is coming to Netflix on Wednesday, 16th February. The film’s official trailer has finally surfaced. Watch it below.
The film was directed by Chicago filmmaking duo, Clarence “Coodie” Simmons and Chike Ozah (aka Coodie & Chike), who first worked together on Ye’s ‘Through the Wire’ music video in 2003.
In the trailer, Ye is asked to describe his debut album, 2004’s The College Dropout: “I feel like it’s a breath of fresh air,” he says. When an interviewer asks Ye why he believes he’s successful, he responds “I just think it was in God’s plan.”
He continues: “I think [God] has me here for a reason and I have something to say. There’s people that might be better programmers, better rappers. The way I think I really won is I had the heart.”
In a voiceover, Coodie says he knew Ye was destined for greatness more than two decades ago. He also reveals the documentary has been “21 years in the making.”
jeen-yuhs part one premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah in late January. The three-parts will be rolled out on Netflix in consecutive weeks. That means it’ll overlap with the supposed release date of Ye’s new album, DONDA 2.
