One poor punter could get no satisfaction while attending The Rolling Stones‘ concert at Adelaide Oval yesterday, feeling the need to get up close and personal to the legendary rock band by rushing the stage, though to what ends we may never know.
Footage from the gig shows the unscheduled special guest explode from stage right as The Rolling Stones wrap up You Can’t Always Get What You Want. The tune turns out to be a fitting one for the stage invader, who is wearing an fluoro orange “AAA” safety vest, perhaps explaining how he got backstage in the first place.
Unfortunately the resourceful Stones fan doesn’t have the moves like Jagger, as a security guard hammers him to the stage and then unceremoniously drags the culprit by his black hoodie. The defeated fan tries to find his feet, which proves to be his second mistake.
A bigger, balder, dressed in blacker, security guard suddenly appears and shows no mercy in delivering a spine-tingling tackle. Another clip, from the nosebleeds, appears to show two, possibly three, guards roughing up the fan before literally carry him off stage.
You’ll note that, ever the consummate professionals, The Stones’ don’t stop playing during the whole incident, though it does appear as if Keith Richards points for the second security guard to come in and finish the job.
After the unknown man “was escorted off the premises”, as it’s phrased on The Rolling Stone’s YouTube channel, Jagger was quoted as remarking, “All part of the act, some Aussies Rules tackling!”
The Stones’ played before a sold out crowd of 53,300, performing 19 songs and appeared onstage alongside special guest Mick Taylor, the 14 ON FIRE touring band, and, for one brief brutal moment, an overly-enthusiastic fan.
The Rolling Stones are currently touring Australia with British India and The Preatures as supports. You can check out the footage of the stage invader getting nailed, along with the set list and a snippet of some professionally shot footage of the Stones performing Jumpin’ Jack Flash (More like Jumpin’ Jack Bashed amirite?) below.
