The Flaming Lips has dropped a preview of their new concert film Freak Night, which you can view at the bottom of this page.
Freak Night captures the band’s free show at the Oklahoma City Zoo Ampitheatre, which was filmed at the end of October. The trailer shows the band introducing themselves to punters, and Wayne Coyne venturing into the crowd inside his trademark hamster ball.
According to Rolling Stone, the show was billed at the time as “the last hurrah” for the venue and the venue’s “greatest free show ever”, as well as the “largest costume party in the Midwest” given the event was staged around Halloween.
We’ll wait and see if it lived up to the hype when the film is released. A release date hasn’t been announced for the film yet; however, NME reckon it will be available on the band’s website as early as next week.
The Flaming Lips will be in Australia in a couple of weeks as one of the main headliners of this year’s Falls Festival, which is happening at Lorne, Victoria and Marion Bay, Tasmania over New Year’s Eve.
