It’s been only a matter of hours since Kings Of Leon released their thoroughly underwhelming new single Supersoaker, but it’s already managed to piss off Wavves main man Nathan Williams. The chillwaver has lost his chill on Twitter, accusing KOL of ripping his band off.
William’s pointed out just how bizarre the selection of track name was, considering a track of the same name featured on Wavves’ 2010 album King On The Beach. Williams asked his followers, “Wait kings of leon just released a single called ‘super soaker’??” before poking fun at some of the rhetoric that has been surrounding the bands forthcoming album. “From their ‘youthful’ album ‘mechanical bull’ lol lol :/” he wrote.
Williams then tweeted once more on the topic to reiterate his opinion, should people have not registered the tone. “Hey @KingsOfLeon you’ll never read this bc u pay someone to maintain yr twitter but i just wanted to say u suck”. In response to a fan’s reminder that he had previously renounced trashing other bands on social media, Williams explained that he isn’t making fun of the band but shaming them because they “blatantly” ripped him off.
Whether or not Williams was taking the proverbial, he’s got some valid points. There has been no rebuttal from the KOL camp and, as you may have noticed when we posted the track earlier today, the band haven’t exactly taken any risks with the forthcoming record.
Williams tweetstorm was capped off with a rather touching message to Aussie fans: “So excited to be going back to Australia!!! See u nerds later”. Wavves will be in town very soon for Splendour In The Grass 2013 and three sideshows. See u nerds there.
