Tame Impala mastermind Kevin Parker has responded for the first time about The Last Shadow Puppets‘ impromptu ‘Tame Impala’ song they performed earlier this year.
The Last Shadow Puppets’ Alex Turner broke into the impromptu tune during a set at Poland’s Open’Er Festival, where Tame Impala were due to take to the stage later on in the day.
“There’s a storm brewing… there’s a storm brewing in the form of Tame Impala,” he sang, ending with, “Kevin Parker controls the weather system around here.”
Parker heard the tune from backstage, but he wasn’t as thrilled as you’d expect, because he was sick as a dog.
“We were waiting in our dressing room – I was extremely sick, it was the show straight after Glastonbury, and I just got really violently ill,” he tells DIY.
“I almost couldn’t play, so we heard that they made up this impromptu Tame Impala tribute jam, and I was like, ‘Oh no!’ It was the one night where I just wanted to get through it, I didn’t want anyone to hype it up, I didn’t want anyone to ramp it up.”
Despite this, he appreciated Turner’s gesture saying, “It’s sweet of them, really… They probably helped to save it.”
For the record, Turner looks to be a fan of Tame Impala. He was filmed dancing to Parker and co. while they played at Glastonbury.
