What So Not, the electronic music project of Sydney producer Christopher Emerson, has released its first solo single of 2022. ‘Mr Regular’ feautres vocals from Oliver Tree and Run The Jewels’ Killer Mike.
‘Mr Regular’ follows What So Not’s Daniel Johns collaboration, ‘Stand ‘Em Up’, which appears on the latter’s recent solo album, FutureNever. ‘Mr Regular’ will feature on What So Not’s upcoming second album, Anomaly, which is due out on Friday, 16th September via Sweat It Out!
The album is available for pre-order now. It’s the follow-up to What So Not’s 2018 debut, Not All the Beautiful Things, which featured collaborations with Slumberack, Skrillex, Winona Oak, Buoy, James Earl, Rome Fortune, Tommy Swisher, KLP, and multiple appearances by Johns.
Over the last few years, What So Not has released the singles ’20:25′ (w/Flux Pavilion and The Chain Gang of 1974), The Change (w/DMA’S), ‘Messin’ Me Up’ (feat. EVAN GIIA), and featured on Example’s ‘Every Single Time’.
‘Mr Regular’ was influenced by Dead Prez and Gorillaz. Oliver Tree interpolates Blondie’s ‘One Way Or Another’ in the pre-chorus. Killer Mike is in fine form, laying down the song’s second verse. “Did what I did to get by,” he raps. “Had no regrets, had no regrets / I did not settle for regular shit.”
“I showed Mike the demo after working on a bootleg/remix for his project, Run The Jewels,” said Emerson. “Mr Regular is about the difficulty that we face through our childhood and career progression as clueless superior figures try to control and shape our path.” Listen to the track below.
