Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Whitley has made good on his promise to emerge from hibernation, unleashing his new single My Heart Is Not A Machine and its rather spectacular video, which he shot entirely in the Amazon rainforest (as you do).
The Johann Rashid-directed video is a slow-burning, introspective wander through the jungle, complete with parrots, hammocks and the odd rainforest kitten, with a bit of day-glo paint thrown in for good measure. The track is a cracking return for Whitley, real name Lawrence Greenwood, with sweet, delicate guitar licks and some glorious guest vocals from indie songstress Esther Holt.
Whitley last week announced his return to the game after previously stating that his 2010 tour would be his last, giving us a run of headlining tour dates to accompany his Splendour In The Grass appearance.
Seems like you got a bit John Farnham on us there, Whitley, but that’s OK – we’ll forgive you. His new album Even The Stars Are A Mess will be released on Friday, 5th July.
