Whitney Houston – or at least, a hologram version of her – will go on tour in the UK next year.
Music Week have confirmed that Houston, who died in 2012, is the latest artist to get the hologram treatment.
The “tour” is being staged by Base Entertainment, who have worked on hologram productions of the likes of Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison and Amy Winehouse. The Holly/Orbison tour is about to kick off an American run, while an Amy Winehouse production is currently in development.
“It will be an incredible show,” said Seth Faber from music publishing company Primary Wave, who have recently partnered with the Houston estate. “So much effort has gone into making the show as authentic as possible. It’s going to be a phenomenal experience.”
Funnily enough, it’s not the first time a Houston hologram has been in development.
In 2016, an ill-fated hologram tour organised by a different company was supposed to go ahead, supposedly given the green light by the Houston estate. However, it seems like that one kind of just… maybe didn’t eventuate? The hologram was set to debut on an episode of The Voice, but the estate pulled the plug at the last minute.
Houston recently had her biggest posthumous hit, with a cover of Steve Winwood’s ‘Higher Love’ that features her vocals alongside production by Kygo. Houston originally recorded a cover of the song for the Japanese edition of her third studio album, I’m Your Baby Tonight.
