Who Is The ‘Mystery Oz Act’ On Splendour In The Grass’ 2019 Lineup?

The 2019 Splendour In The Grass lineup has just dropped and it is absolutely bloody huge. Headlined by Childish Gambino, Tame Impala and Chance The Rapper, with the likes of SZA, Foals, James Blake, Courtney Barnett, Catfish & The Bottlemen, Santigold, FIDLAR and about a billion more also on the bill.

But there’s one act that has everyone talking, and no one even knows who it is. On the Saturday of the festival, a ‘Mystery Oz Act’ will be taking to the stage and the Internet is already buzzing with who it could possibly be.

There’s endless possibilities of which Aussie act is keeping their identity a secret (for now) so we thought we’d try our hand at some educated guesses as to who it might be.

In any case, check out the full lineup and important info below.

MIDNIGHT OIL

Rumours have long been swirling about Peter Garrett and co. performing Australia’s most famous festival, but 2019 might just be the year where we see it become a reality. The band recently announced their ‘final’ touring plans for the year, and it apparently wraps up with a very remote show headlining The Big Red Bash in Birdsville, QLD just days before Splendour is happening. Could that ‘final’ label be just a tease to catch us off guard?

THE MIDDLE EAST

As far as who is most likely, The Middle East might be the smart choice for your money. At the start of this year, this would’ve seemed like nonsense but, given their surprising reunion for Vivid Live 2019, anything’s possible. On top of that, it is well known that most of Matt Corby’s band are previous members of The Middle East, and Corby is playing SITG. It would also be pretty bloody poetic – as the band actually announced they were breaking up at Splendour In The Grass all the way back in 2011. It would be a bloody perfect and welcome homecoming.

OCEAN ALLEY

Look, this seems a little too obvious to be true but Ocean Alley‘s absence on the 2019 Splendour bill seems bizarre given that they kicked off the year with taking out the top spot on Triple J’s Hottest 100. To be fair, they did play last year but it seems like a waste for them not to capitalise on their success by making an upgrade from G.W. McLennan to the Ampitheatre stage this year.

YOUNG DIVAS

If the Spice Girls can do it, why can’t they?
