Willie Garson, Beloved ‘Sex And The City’ Actor, Dies Aged 57

Willie Garson, who is best known for his role as Carrie Bradshaw’s close friend Stanford Blatch on Sex And The City, has died. He was 57.

A cause of death has not been made public, however his son, Nathen Garson, confirmed the news today via Instagram.

“You’ll always be with me,” he wrote. “Love you more than you will ever know and I’m glad you can be at peace now.”

Garson, over the course of his decades-long career in show business, appeared in over 300 television episodes and 70 films.

Garson’s array of TV credits include White CollarNYPD BlueStargate SG-1, and the reboot of Hawaii Five-0, to name a few.

But it was arguably the quick wit and style that he brought to the character of Stanford Blatch on SATC that solidified Garson’s place in history.

He appeared in the cult TV show, and both of its associated films. According to IMDb, Garson was involved in the SATC spinoff series, And Just Like That… which is currently still being filmed.

Michael Patrick King, the executive producer of SATC, told Variety that Garson was sick during the filming of the spinoff, but that did not let his spirit waver. He also expressed his sadness at the loss of Garson.

“His spirit and his dedication to his craft was present every day filming And Just Like That…,” King said.

“He was there — giving us his all — even while he was sick. His multitude of gifts as an actor and person will be missed by everyone. In this sad, dark moment we are comforted by our memory of his joy and light.”

Garson’s fellow cast members Cynthia Nixon and Kim Cattrall both paid tribute to the Garson via Twitter.

Nixon said “he was a source of light, friendship and show business lore. He was a consummate professional – always.”
