And The Winner Of Eurovision 2016 Is…

It’s all over, red rover! Eurovision 2016 has officially wrapped up, the votes have been tallied, the results calculated and the conquering nation is…

Ukraine!

Ukraine’s Jamala took the prize with her dramatic track 1944, snatching the crown from Australia’s Dami Im who managed to come right behind in second place.

Ukraine nabbed 534 points while Australia was awarded 511. Russia, Bulgaria and Sweden followed behind, rounding out the top 5.

This year the voting was a little different. Each country’s professional juries awarded their points separate to the public vote meaning the top 10 countries in both the jury and public vote received points. In the past, both the professional juries and public votes were presented as a combined score. This meant that double the amount of points were up for grabs this year.

Former X Factor winner Im topped the jury voting with 320 points, followed by Ukraine on 211 points. The top five was rounded out by France, Malta and Russia.

It wasn’t enough to guarantee her the crown though as the public gave more votes to the Ukraine pushing them into the lead.

While Im didn’t get first place she bettered Guy Sebastian’s fifth ranking from last year and proved once again that Australia can belt out a tune with the best that Europe has to offer.
