Last week Wolfmother frontman Andrew Stockdale turned up to a pub in Brisbane and decided the cover band playing weren’t good enough and what people needed to hear was his rendition of Let It Be or as he calls it Motherfucker Let It Be. Now the singer has been fined in what can only be described as the first criminal case of drink singing in Australia.
Brisbane Times Reports:
Wolfmother frontman Andrew Stockdale has been fined $350 after a drunken attempt to sing at a Brisbane bar on Sunday night.
Stockdale, 35 of Paddington in Brisbane’s inner-west, did not appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning but his lawyer entered guilty pleas on his behalf for offences under the Liquor Act.
The court heard Stockdale was drunk at the Archive Bar in West End at the weekend when he tried to jump on stage to sing. Defence lawyer Noel Barbi, for Stockdale, said the band playing at the time “took exception to that”.
About 9pm, bar staff refused Stockdale service due to his intoxication but friends of the singer still attempted to buy drinks for him.
A short time later, security staff asked him to leave the premises but he refused.
The court heard they then attempted to remove him, but he sat down in the middle of a busy thoroughfare inside the club and “passively resisted” security.
Police were called about 11pm and Stockdale was arrested and taken to the Brisbane watchhouse.
Stockdale refused to answer police questions and was charged with being drunk and disorderly, failing to leave licensed premises and resisting removal of licensed premises.
Mr Barbi said his client had “simply had too much to drink”.
Moral of the story, drink and sing and you’re a bloody idiot, especially if you’re in Wolfmother…
