Manchester heavy pop group WU LYF have seemingly split up – and they’ve used YouTube for their swansong.
Consequence of Sound reports that the band posted a new song video on YouTube entitled T R I U M P H, alongside farewell letters from each band member.
“WU LYF is dead to me,” frontman Ellery James Roberts wrote. “The sincerity of Go Tell Fire was lost in the bullshit of maintaining face in the world we live. Clap your hands chimp everybody’s watching. A year spent losing faith; Innocence lost wide eyes see clear the dark.”
More excerpts from another unknown band member included: “We done business to be as free as we want to be; I’m exercising this freedom. Manchester and the life we maintaining is leaving me empty. It is a beautiful/ incredible/ insane world we live and I’m done walking round in baby step circles in a self involved bubble. WU LYF isn’t that important. So go do what you want to do.”
Many seemed to think WU LYF had split up during a show in London in March, where they said “goodbye forever” to the crowd.
Shortly after, the band denied the meaning of their comment in an interview with NME, saying: “When we talk about things, it’s always in a forever sense. If you’re our age, a year is a long time. You live a different life each year. We like to create a bit of drama, that’s what excites me to play every night. It’d be boring to just say ‘see ya next year’.”
