2013 will mark 20 years since Wu Tang Clan unleashed onto the world Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). The album was so influential on society and just so friggin’ awesome that the milestone could be enough to bring the group together, with RZA championing the idea.
Released in 1993, the album was the debut full-length from the group and succeeded in pulling them from the rest of the monotonous masses and launching them into the highest echelons of music society.Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) was, and still is, regarded as one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time and was even enough to launch solo careers for the members.
Currently doing the press rounds for his directorial debut The Man With The Iron Fists, RZA has explained that his new found work ethic is something he needs to apply to Wu-Tang. Speaking to The New York Times, RZA explained “There’s one last job Wu-Tang Clan must do. The 20th anniversary [of “Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)”] is next year.”
Continuing to add that “we need to, one time, completely, efficiently, properly, professionally represent our brand. One more time. But this time, showing up on time for press and for concerts and studio. Do it one time, perfect. We did good – people love it and I’m proud of what we’ve done. But all that was done – I would always say in my old interviews, “This is organized confusion.” It was kept and contained, but it was a lot of chaos.”
According to NME, the producer has been in talks with other members GZA, Ghostface Killah, Method Man, Raekwon, Inspectah Deck, U-God and Masta Killa about the idea, and sees no reason why Wu-Tang Clan can’t once again be Forever. “There’s enough of us still alive, and I think there’s still enough fans out there. hip-hop is stronger than ever, as far as worldwide recognition, and our name is synonymous with it,”
The outfit is held in such high esteem that there are currently two biopics in production focusing on the life and career of deceased member Ol’ Dirty Bastard.
