A whole lot of artists have shared self-isolation performances over the last few months. Though they can suffer from tinny sound and a generalised awkwardness, they’ve nevertheless been a small blessing in a time of mass disconnection.
Now, Yeah Yeah Yeahs have kicked it up a notch with their lockdown rendition of Fever to Tell favourite ‘Phenomena’. We’re talking strobe lights, we’re talking streamers, we’re talking a fog machine.
As far as the setup, singer Karen O performs in her closet behind a laptop which shows guitarist Nick Zinner belt away at the song’s infectious riff remotely.
As with most other performances of this kind, it doesn’t sound great – but it’s a whole lot of fun nevertheless. “Party anywhere (closet) anytime (any day of the week) safe at home,” wrote Karen O in the video’s caption. Watch it below via her Instagram account.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs were booked to hit Australia in a couple of months as part of this year’s Splendour in the Grass lineup. Those dates have been pushed back to late October, but it’s obviously unclear at this stage whether the NYC rockers will still be appearing.
The band’s last album was 2013’s Mosquito. Back in February, Karen O revealed the band were readying themselves to create again.
“All I can say is that I feel ready to make some music,” the trio’s bandleader told Double J. “It feels like time to have something new out there.”
