It’s been a big bloody week for Jay-Z. As well as becoming a dad for the second time (with wifey Beyoncé officially popping out twins), the rap veteran has just announced the imminent arrival of his first album since 2013.
Dubbed 4:44, the new disc is lead by a single called ‘Adnis’ which Jay’s previewed in a freshly-released trailer for a mysterious film — also dubbed 4:44 — starring Mahershala Ali and Danny Glover.
Fans won’t have to wait long for the album or film, either. Both are due out in just over a week (on 30th June) and will be available exclusively on the rapper’s embattled streaming service TIDAL.
RN we don’t know whether 4:44 will be a visual album like Bey’s Lemonade, or whether the movie will just act as some kind of companion piece, but more will likely be revealed soon.
As Consequence Of Sound points out, the number four has a whole bunch of significance for both Jay and Bey — his bday is 4th December while hers is 4th September, they got hitched on 04/04/08 and both of them have a roman numeral IV tattooed on their ring finger.
Gums have been flapping that Jay-Z was about to drop an album after mysterious billboards spruiking 4:44 began popping up all over NYC.
Until now, the most recent tune we heard from HOV was his Frank Ocean collab ‘Biking’, but it seems like that’s about to change very soon.
