If you’re hoping to see a proper Paramore lineup reunion with ex-drummer Zac Farro, then prepare to have your heart shoved in a blender.
Although the stickman has confirmed he has returned to help the pop-punk graduates record the follow-up to their self-titled 2013 LP, it turns out he doesn’t actually have any plans to officially rejoin the band.
“They’ve asked me to play drums on their album, on their new album,” he told Idobi in a new interview. “So [Hayley Williams] put it on their Instagram and put it on their website, and it’s no joke that I’m back just playing drums for them on their album alongside with doing my HalfNoise stuff. That’s it, and that’s literally all it is right now.
“No one’s really asked cause I’ve kind of deterred the question, but I’m doing HalfNoise – that’s my band,” he continued. “They’ve asked me to drum, and it was like, ‘Yeah, of course!’ We’ve always been friends, and yeah, there was a little bit of weirdness cause I left the band for a few years, but all that stuff is not even there anymore and there’s no hard feelings and it’s just been rad and fun.”
Paramore fans started flipping over the possibility that Zac might be back for realsies after Williams & co posted an Insty pic of themselves having a bite to eat with him and producer Justin Meldal-Johnsen.
It was later followed up by another photo post alongside the words “Lunch is over//Making an album” that showed Farro clearly visible behind the drum kit in Paramore’s studio (cue freakout).
Farro played drums on the band’s first three albums, but left along with his brother Josh back in 2010.
And it seems like that’s where he’s staying, at least for now.
But we can still dream.
