It’s been a full on week on social media for Zedd, who has only now come through and responded to claims of not giving fellow artist Matthew Koma songwriting credit where it was due for his part in the creation of hit songs ‘Clarity’ and ‘Spectrum’.
Initially, Koma took to social media to accuse the DJ and producer of ripping him off by stating, “More or less, I was just brushed under the rug while he took all the credit. Which felt confusing because the millions of people who connected to ‘Clarity’ and those other songs, seemed to connect to the lyrics/emotion/melodies I had written. But he deemed his Kick Drum sound the driving force and left me out of all the shared credit.”
It wasn’t the first time Zedd has been accused of ripping others off, as Stereogum pointed out, referencing his longstanding feud with Diplo.
Yesterday, Zedd officially responded to the claims, breaking down how ‘Spectrum’ and ‘Clarity’ were both created; denying any truth to Koma’s allegations.
“Nothing will ever change how proud I am of the songs I made with Matt,” he said. “They will forever be part of our history and even though it’s hard to sit through a personal attack like this, I still love the songs just as much and I still think Matt is one of the best songwriters I’ve ever gotten to work with.”
