Following on from the ongoing drama in Sweden surround A$AP Rocky’s recent arrest on suspicion of assault and his current imprisonment under ‘inhumane conditions’, Kamasi Washington is another artist who has been encountering conflict while on tour in Europe.
Kamasi Washington cut his headline show at Austria’s Arena Wien short this week, claiming that a security guard assaulted his father (and touring band member), Rickey Washington. According to Pitchfork, Washington and his band got through one song of the set, then proceeded to leave the stage.
“The reason why we’re late tonight is because a security guard here assaulted my father, Rickey Washington.” Washington told the crowd. “I met this man face to face. He looked at me and laughed. He said, ‘He was acting like an asshole.’ I said, ‘You don’t get to do that to him. We’re all going to leave.'”
The venue has since released an apology on Facebook and offered refunds to audience members, noting that all proceeds will be going towards charity.
