Alex Lahey has returned with new single ‘Spike the Punch’, coinciding with the announcement of her signing to her new label, Liberation Records.
An effervescent power-pop gem, the new song sees Lahey galvanised, and features arguably one of her most cathartic refrains yet. “Spike the punch, and get everyone sent home / So in the end it’s you and me dancing all alone,” Lahey sings over big, blistering power chords.
“’Spike the Punch’ is a song about the fun that comes with self-sabotage and reckless abandon. It’s big, it’s loud, it’s fun, it’s its own beast,” Lahey explains.
“There are some super sinister tones in there rubbing up against really bright anime style guitar harmonies (guitarmonies, anyone?) and shout choruses. Spike feels like a raucous bookend to navigating these cruelly unpredictable times. Touch wood.”
‘Spike the Punch’ marks Lahey’s third single this year. She released ‘On My Way’ back in May, which was written for the soundtrack to Netflix’s animated film The Mitchells vs. The Machines. In February, she and Gordi united on their collaborative single ‘Dino’s’.
