Sydney-based pop-punk riot trio Bloods are super damn excited to be bringing you a brand new ‘lil somethin’ somethin’ to get messy to over the long weekend.
With an EP and a full-length album behind them, they recently dropped their dreamy, noisy, hook-heavy single Bring My Walls Down, which is taken from their forthcoming second LP. It’s a tune about love and the way it can knock you clean off your feet, much like a bad case of glandular fever can, or even a nasty case of gout. Lead vocalist MC explains:
“BMWD looks at love as a disease, a kind of infection that infests your mind and body without you having any control over it; something that breaks through uninvited and reminds you that you’re an animal.”
MC has also been kind enough to put together a little selection of her favourite female-fronted acts that she believes should most definitely be playing at an eleven on your musical dials. Turn up those speakers and read on.
Sheer Mag
This Philadelphia band is like a slap in the face of awesomeness. I heard them for the first time earlier this year and am obsessed with them. Tina’s voice is magic.
Fazerdaze
Amelia is a songwriter/producer from New Zealand and writes the kind of indie pop that cuts right through your heart. There’s something so truly, undeniably special about her music and she is literally the sweetest human I’ve ever met.
Mitski
She is probably my most favourite artist at the moment. She has a way with words that exceeds anything I’ve heard in years. Her songs are so evocative, her voice is like heaven and her guitars are always brutal. I’m such a fan.
Downtown Boys
These guys are friggen cool! Political punk with a saxophone. Remind me of X-Ray Spex for obvious reasons but they are a very spicy meatball for sure.
Charlotte Day Wilson
Her voice is so haunting. I’ve been obsessed with her single Work since I first heard it. Awesome lyrics and awesome production.
Miss Destiny
Man these guys rule so hard! Have been listening to their album non-stop since I got it. Brutal and powerful!
All Dogs
This band has such a great sound. Their song That Kind Of Girl has been on high rotation all year.
