In a late contender for the most anticipated album of 2021, Taylor Swift has finally dropped her much-hyped Red (Taylors Version), a re-recording of her iconic 4th album that sent her from arena country-pop queen to modern stadium sensation.
The second of her re-recordings project (the first being the redux of Fearless earlier this year), the album comes as part of Swift’s move to reclaim ownership of her back catalogue, in the wake of the sale of her old label Big Machine, which saw the acquisition of the masters of her first six albums (Swift since signed a new deal with Republic Records and owns all of her subsequent masters under the new deal – read our breakdown of the entire dispute here.)
Featuring such megahits as ‘I Knew You Were Trouble, ’22’ and ‘Everything Has Changed’ (to name a few) having the cuts from Red back on the airwaves is a massive deal, and will no doubt stand a good chance of repeating the feat of the re-done Fearless, which was the first re-recorded album in history to debut at number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
The re-recording of the album features some pretty significant new guests on some songs, including country superstar Chris Stapleton on ‘I Bet You Think About Me’, and Phoebe Bridgers on ‘Nothing New.’
The re-release also features all 30 songs that were originally penned for the record, including the 10-minute long version of fan favourite ‘All Too Well, and an accompanying short film of the same name.
The film, written and directed by Swift herself, features actors Sadie Sink and Dylan O’Brien and is based on the song. Check it out below once it premieres. In the meantime, stream Red (Taylor’s Version) below.
