Triple J Hosts Announce New ABC Live Music TV Show ‘The Set’

The ABC has announced the introduction of a new live music television series called The Set, helping to fill the musical gap in Australia’s TV guides.

Hosted by triple j‘s Dylan Alcott and Linda Marigliano, The Set will coincide with the ABC‘s Ausmusic Month this November, and will feature performances from the likes of Angus & Julia Stone, Vera Blue, Ball Park Music and The Presets.

The series will be filmed in front of a live audience of 250 people on a “purpose-built share house set”, with headline artists curating a two-guest lineup for each episode, allowing for “some unforgettable one-off link ups and performances”, the ABC says.

“We’ve been keeping The Set a secret for a while now and are pumped to finally share this news with you,” say Alcott and Marigliano.

“A new live music TV show is going to be a great thing for Australian music, and hosting it together is a bloody dream come true.”

The ABC says The Set “continues ABC’s much-loved live music tradition, in the spirit of shows like Countdown and Recovery, but in a unique format that is the first of its kind”.

The Set will premiere on Wednesday, 31st October at 9:30pm AEST, and will broadcast each Wednesday night. The show will also be available on iview, and will be replayed on TV from 10pm AEST on Saturdays, beginning 3rd November.

Today’s announcement comes after Channel Nine launched a new music show called Jam Live earlier this year.

What’s more, this November will also see the ABC host a huge Spicks And Specks reunion special, and MTV is continuing to produce its new MTV Unplugged Melbourne series.
